Cuadernos Rubio in English

890x1 ingles2

Guidelines for Teachers

Nowadays the teaching of English begins at an increasingly earlier age in the Spanish educational system. Therefore the acquisition of the second language and basic skills or competencies should resemble more and more the acquisition of these in the first language or mother tongue.

It is therefore important to work on and develop the basic skills of reading and writing in English in parallel with those or the mother tongue from their very foundations. The class provides independent moments of development of these basic skills. The Rubio English series of booklets along with the web page can be used in class to provide learners with autonomous practice in reading, writing and listening in English.

These fundamental skills achieved through constant practice and a consistent methodology will enable students to further develop their language skills of reading and writing in English. Thus while the students are practicing handwriting, spelling and punctuation they can listen to the words and phrases correctly pronounced by a native speaker.

Research centered on the brain finds that through the repetition of correct models and organized patterns students are able to mechanize the basic processes of reading and writing in order to improve their communication skills in a second language.

By associating the written words to pictures and their oral texts, children archive a holistic assimilation of the graphemes and phonemes presented. In other words the children improve their vocabulary, reading and writing through the repetition and practice with words, pictures and sentences.

The Rubio English proposal aims to provide a battery of exercises that will allow students to consolidate and reinforce basic skills and new knowledge independently through practice.

With this idea in mind, the more automated and autonomous drilling will help to consolidate basic skills through these Rubio English booklets allowing teachers more time to dedicate their classes to other types of activities.

Our first suggestion is to set up stations in the classroom where some children can work on their basic reading, writing ana vocabulary through the use of Rubio English Booklets and the webpage while others are working in groups on key competencies such as learning to learn, and cooperative or collaborative activities to foster and simulate creativity, critical thinking as well as social skills.
